American Almanac
almanac OR who’s who??
For an important assignment we have to find either information on our thesis topic from an almanac or a “who’s who”. I am writing about American women’s roles during World War II. Does anyone have a subscription to one of these sources so they could get info for me or does anyone know what kind of information I should look for in one of these sources???
The “who’s who” is such an absurd waste of time that it’s unfortunate your instructor assigned it. If you’re looking for women’s roles in WWII, the best place is the Almanac. Every library has at least five (because they are so common). What you’ll need to look for is the percentage of women in combat roles, support roles, nursing roles, etc. You can also look up the percentage of women that hold particular ranks. Are most women “Nurse captains” or are they Colonels, Generals, etc.? The best resource would be an almanac from the time period, but I’m sure you can find that information on the web. We’ve (the U.S.) documented almost everything about WWII by now.
