Antique Books

Advice re whether to cut pages of antique books? Antiquarian help please.?
I bought a set of antique books a while ago, but have not read them because many pages in every volume are uncut and cannot be opened. Is it considered a bad thing to cut the pages? If not, what is the best way to do it?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
If the books are valuable and you are going to sell them, don’t cut the pages!! It all has to do with the book being in its original condition. Collectors usually will keep them in storage, not read them, and the fact that the pages are still uncut is crucial to getting a good price.
If you are just going to read the books and keep them for yourself with no expectation of ever selling them, then go ahead and cut the pages.
