I feel bad about purchasing Nazi Memorabilia?
So, um, I’m really interested in WW2 and the like, and I really like collecting memorabilia from that era. I have several antique photographs and some other stuff, but nothing from the German side of the war.
But I just purchased some badges and pins off eBay and I feel kind of bad. I mean, my family’s Jewish but it doesn’t really bother me, but I’m afraid my family might think I’m a fucking skinhead or something. I guess I’m glad that I bought it so it doesn’t get into the hands of some Neo-Nazi and someone who’s interested in history instead, but it still makes me feel dirty and icky inside and just UGH.
Sorry if this sounds like trolling or anything, but I’m serious here. Any advice here, guys?
Well, it’s not like the Nazis are going to be making money off your purchases. A lot of the authentic memorabilia you’ll find are going to be “trophies” — souvenirs taken by Allied soldiers in the course of defeating the Nazis. So in a sense, owning a piece of Nazi stuff doesn’t say you identify with them, but with the people who beat them. Given that, I still wouldn’t go flying a big swastika flag over my bed or in front of my door if I were you.
