Arabian Horse

What is the best food for an Arabian horse preparing for an endurance race.?
Hello. I am planning on running the 25 mi Malibu endurance race. I was wondering what brand of electrolytes (AccuLytes, Apple-A-Day,Exer-Lyte, Quench, ect) is best for this purpose. I was also wondering if anyone knew any other tips on nutrition and care to prepare for the race. My horse is a bit older, so I want to make sure he is healthy and ready. Thanks!
Hey ![]()
Ive been riding horses basically all my life and Im doing Prix St George on my 28 year old horse! So even though its not endurance riding, i really know quite abit about the right suppliments and electrolytes. First off is your horse a hot head? Because you will be needing the simple food wich contains alot of energy, if he isnt a hot head you can go with just plain old pony cubes to start off with. If he is a hot head then extra-cool is just perfect. I feed this to my horse and even though he isnt very hot headed it makes him so easy to ride and gives him alot of energy. For the electrolytes Marathon Endurance is a great one, Concentrated Trace-Minerals and Vitamin Supplement with additional Vitamin E, Iron and Organic Selenium especially for Endurance Horses. Since your horse is older make sure you give him some powders for his joints so they dont get sore, joint guard is just fantastic and also adding some dried celery and garlic into his feed will help! Also make sure you bring heaps of water a long and some tastey treats for him, if he isnt a very good drinker bring a long some malasses and im sure he wouldnt resist then!
Since you probably know this already, do not change his feed instantly!!! Riding a horse with colic probably wouldnt be good,
xxx hope i helped!
