is it illegal or against the copywrite law to use a book,magazine or cd cover for a photo?
im a photographer and want to try using covers to cover the face in my photography.

Since the materials you want to use are protected by copyright law you should ask for permission to use the pictures. Fully explain your intent – personal use, commercial use, etc. The owner will then decide whether or not to grant your request and how much to charge you.
