The Doctor Who Sci-Fi Series And Doctor Who Audio Books Series: Some History
Almost everyone in countries such as the UK, USA, Canada, New Zeeland & Australia and so on should have at the very least heard of the famous science Fiction TV serial DW by the BBC! Now that Doctor Who is back on TV since 2005 after it’s fifteen year pause the serial has gotten to be pretty popular once more, so mush so in fact that even the sci-fi channel has taken an interest in the television show.
Doctor Who all started in November 1963 when it’s first episode aired on television taking the Dr. & his friends back into the past where they aided some cavemen to use fire for the first time. When you take into account the totally new serial DW is currently the longest running Science fiction show of all time! Star Trek happens to be the second longest running Science fiction series of all time having began in nineteen sixty thee with stories being produced up in to only a few years ago.
During the mid seventies the BBC expanded DW onto the audio median making the 1st Dr. Who Audio. The first releases were mostly soundtracks from the TV shows with binding narration by the Drs. It wasn’t long before the BBC decided to take the audio releases to the next level by releasing audio book stories solely for Audio Book release.
In addition the DW Audiobook family was extended with the release of Audio Books from episodes that had exclusively appeared on the radio. Another good use the BBC have found for audio with DW is the re-creation of old stories that had been lost. Now the BBC’s Doctor Who Audiobook collection has over 50 titles all available in top notch Digital format at a reduced download price! There exist Audiobooks from the very first show all the way up to the most recent show with David Tennent and even Sarah Jane and Doctor Who Torchwood Audio.
On our planet today audio is even more popular than ever thanks to MP3 players. With multitasking becoming more and more an important part of our lives it’s not surprising that Audiobook sales for both DW and in general have grown. Another reason why people like Dr. Who audio is because in many cases the audio stories are now read by the actors of the serial.
With the Doctor Who New show going from strength to strength and more and more Audiobooks being made available both from the old and new series and now from Torchwood & The Sarah Jane Adventures as well, it looks like Doctor Who & DW Audiobooks are here to stay for some time to come!
