Bruce Catton

Can you suggest some good non-fiction history books by lesser known authors?
By lesser-known I mean writers who aren’t huge bestsellers like David McCullogh, Joseph Ellis, Stephen Ambrose, Antonia Fraser, Shelby Foote, Bruce Catton, Douglas Southall Freeman, etc. I’ve already read them.
And by history I mean topics like European royalty, Ancient Greece and Rome, Medieval Civilization, kings, queens, generals, popes and battles, NOT the history of chewing gum or a biography of Kurt Cobain (although such studies have their place)!
I’m going to the bookstore, so I’d appreciate some feedback. Thanks, fellow history buffs!
The Internet is a wonderful invention. If you take your subject of your question and add to what you want to know about it, the search engine will do the rest. For example:
My subject is Teaching. I want to know where to get certified.
The search engine result is as follows:
Teaching + state certification requirements
What you get is this: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=Teachin…
This will work for any subject category. Give it a try and good luck.
