How can you recognize it? What is materialism not? Who are some materialistic people in the book “cannery row” by john steinbeck? What are values associated with materialism? What are the problems created by materialism?
Materialism is a theory that physical matter is the only or fundamental reality and that all being and processes and phenomena can be explained as manifestations or results of matter. Materialism isn’t remoteness, indifference, separation, and detachment. You could recognize materialism if some one is greedy and selfish with a devotion to material wealth. The problems created by materialism can lead to losing friends and family members to greed and selfishness created by materialism. Mack and the boys are very materialistic and so is Lee Chong because they both are very much controlled by profit and material things. The values created by materialism are good for business and to get more things to keep and make a profit on.
