Reading levels of books

The reading levels of books are difficult to determine. Book covers may indicate a level of reading, but there is no industry standard. The truth is that the levels vary widely in children’s books.

Here’s a trick to help decide which book is best for your child…

Choose age appropriate books seems like a simple task, until you reach the bookstore. Suddenly you’re surrounded by hundreds of children’s books, and it appears that keep multiplying. How do you decide which book is best for your child?

While the book covers that give a range of age, the child does not seem to fit. How do you know if the book will be very easy or very difficult?

Maybe you have a list of books that may work, but left his home near the computer. What is a mother?

Easy reading level A simple trick

Ruth Beechick to the Rescue! Here is a simple trick to help you find appropriate books to children at the age of your child will be able to read. The tip of the selection of books comes from the books of Ruth, (the three R pages 32-33).
Here’s the trick…

Open the book you’re thinking, and read a paragraph of about 100 words. Each time you find a word that your child can not (cannot understand or know what that means), lifting a finger.

What do those fingers mean?

- If you have raised more than five toes, then the book is very difficult for your child.
– M If you have 3-5 fingers raised in the book to challenge your child and improve their reading skills.
– If you have 0-2 fingers raised in the book is easy reading and can help them achieve fluency.

That’s all there is to it! Now you can easily see the level of reading books and decide whether a book is appropriate for your child.

Another suggestion: if you buy on Amazon, you can click many times to see a random page of a book. Use the trick before, when online shopping, too!

In fact, you can even teach your child to do this for yourself. It is useful when you go to the library without you.

Of course, you should not discourage your child to read books that are above their reading level, slightly above…

For example, this is what one mother reported recently:

My daughter’s favorite book of seven years of age, the Internet is related Usborne Encyclopedia of World History by Jane Bingham. You can read some of it now, and ask many questions!

Later, she will be able to read alone, but now is a great resource, and this aroused his interest in history.

While determining the reading levels of children’s books seem grim at first, you can easily determine if a book works well for your child by using the tricks above.

Also, always make sure that your child is interested in the subject. Finally, a book will never be read, unless your child likes!
