James Bond 007 is created in 1952 from a fiction by Ian Fleming, featured in twelve novels, two anthologies, and a film series. After Fleming’s death in 1964, subsequent James Bond novels were written by Kingsley Amis, John Pearson, John Gardner and Raymond Benson. The 007 series thrives on long sabbaticals. The six years between Licence to kill and Goldeneye reinvigorated the franchise, as did the four-year gap between Die Another Day and Casino Royale. Given a few more years off, there’s no reason why the next James Bond film shouldn’t manage to come back just as strongly. The films are officially originated from the purchase the film rights of James Bond.
Maybe we would not miss the James Bond films if they disappeared. Nobody would. Maybe we should just let the character die with dignity while he still can. As the character has interiorized in our deep heart, we will not forget the nice plots it ever gives us.
