How do I publish a genealogy book on French and English royalty?

I am planning on writing a book on the genealogy of French royalty (especially the Merovingians) and then another on English royalty. It’s just going to be your standard genealogy book with a couple of interesting stories in it. I want it to be sold in like bookstores and Amazon and what not. How do I go about doing this? And what about copyrights?

Write the book and try to get a publisher to publish and sell it for you, either by sending your manuscript to them directly, or by going through an agent. Buy a copy of Writers’ Market to find out which publishers are likely to be interested in your work.

Your book is protected by copyright as soon as you write it. You don’t have to do anything. You can, however, register the copyright in order to make it easier to sue someone who tries to steal your work. But you are protected even if you do nothing, and you can always take someone to court to stop them from copying your book.

As for the information in the books, information itself cannot be copyrighted, so you don’t have to worry about that. You do the research yourself, you prepare and write the book yourself, and the book is entirely yours, and so is the copyright on the book.

You can submit books to Amazon directly if you want them to be available as e-books. Look on the Amazon site for details. In many respects they are similar to traditional paper and ink publishers.
