Greece Holidays: A Country Of Many Islands

For a fantastic cruise and summer holiday destination, Greece is one of the most popular destinations. With over 60 Islands and an historically rich, sun kissed mainland, Greece is full of things for holidaymakers to see and plenty of golden sandy beaches to choose from. For Greece holidays with a difference guests can opt for a cruise or a mixture of hotel stays and a cruise.

For holidaymakers whose cruises do go via the capital, there are countless treasures and antiquities to see. Go as far back as the Byzantine times, and from ancient China to ancient Persia as you explore 4000 years worth of Greek history. The archaeological museum is interesting and provides an informative look into the history that different civilisations have left through architecture.

For decades now, tourists on their cheap holidays in Greece have made the trip to the Island of Corfu on their cruises. It is the Island’s capital and you will not be short of things to do in Corfu. Corfu Town takes its architectural inspiration from the grand old boulevards and palaces of northern Europe. The Liston was inspired by the Rue de Rivoli in Paris and is lined with cafes where visitors can have a cool drink in the shade. Surrounded by some beautiful old buildings is the famous cricket pitch, well worth checking out too.

The largest of the Greek Islands is Crete, and it is a tranquil getaway. The Island has a mountain range stretching from east to west, making Crete a hikers paradise. The commanding remains of Frangokastello look spectacular against the backdrop the Island’s mountains. The Island is home to the mythical birthplace of Zeus and it has a great Natural History museum and a treasure filled Archaeological museum.

Cruises on holidays in Greece may dock in Zakynthos where holidaymakers can go to turtle Island to see the famous loggerhead turtles that have been migrating from Africa for thousands of years. The town was a different place before its earthquake in 1953, and the Byzantine museum lets you see a scale model of the town before it happened.
