Hebrew Antique

What type of Religious books do you own?
I have:
3-New American Bibles.
1-New King James bible.
1-Steel-Cover New testament.
1-Copy of the Catechism.
1-Antique Episcopalian Prayer book (Yard Sale)
1-JPS Hebrew-English Tanakh.
1-Egyptian Book of the Dead (Hieroglyphic-Phonetic Egyptian-English)
1-Tridentine Missal
1- Illustrated Catholic Children’s Bible.
1-Why do Catholics Genuflect?
Various Pamphlets from My church and Others.
I probably have more, but those are the only ones I can think of.
I’m not known for short answers here in Y/A…but this one, if I answered it as others did by listing books, would max out the space here and still not have room for all of them. So, I won’t do that.
I’m one of those oddballs who has been fascinated by comparative religion since I was a child. I’ve got the Holy books of every major religion in English translation and some not so major. I have an entire five shelf tall six foot tall bookcase full of books on Judaism. I see many of my books listed under a few other answers. I have books on ancient dead religions whose influences still remain in others. I have several hundred books on religion and associated ancient history.
I also have a collection of pamphlets given by a few different evangelical/missionaries that are used for the purpose of seeking converts. Those I kept were writings I saw as either completely dependent upon the ignorance of the reader as their method was to make outrageous lies to instill fear and then seek to pacify that fear by claims that if one adopted the belief they were peddling, you would overcome the outcome or effect of their lies. Others were so outrageously bigoted that I had even sent copies to various civil rights groups. ( Some that related blacks as less than human, Jews as minions of their Christian Devil ( Judaism has no Devil!) and Muslims as worshipping Moon Gods and demons)
I like to learn what people of the world believe from their own perspectives because I learned at a very young age that far too many people outside a particular religion will seek to justify their own choice by either disparaging or more often misrepresenting the beliefs of others..that has always disturbed me and I have been so adamant against that behavior since I can even remember. I think that we can better understand the events of history, current events and behaviors of collective groups as well as individuals from learning what they believe and why from their OWN words and behaviors. And I still find all of this a fascinating study of human nature.

Visages Antiques d’Israël This recording (aka La musique de la Bible révélée, Volume 4) was produced in 1999 by Mira Zakai, a renowned Israeli contralto and Professor of Voice. This recording is even longer than Psaumes de David (by about six minutes). The recording of the Book of Ruth is notable in that its modal structure is not the same as that which Mme. Haïk-Vantoura originally inferred in her melody-only score Qu… |

Chasing Liberty (Full Screen Edition) $3.95 Even when she’s playing a girl with a head full of air in a plot full of holes, Mandy Moore manages to make Chasing Liberty wholesomely appealing. It’s too bad that “wholesome,” in this case, means frolicking around Prague, Venice, and Berlin as the U.S. President’s daughter, eluding Secret Service agents, defying her second-term President father (Mark Harmon, totally miscast), and trusting comple… |
