Helen Macinnes

Which author do you think I should choose to write monster essays on?
I can choose from the following authors (to read three of their books and write monser essays on): Julian Barnes, Arthur C. Clarke, J.M. Coetzee, Frederick Forsyth, William Golding, Aldous Huxley, P.D. James, Helen Macinnes, Alistair MacLean, Dorthy Sayers, Robert Louis Stevenson, Jules Verne, or Herbert George Wells.
I really enjoy suspenseful stories, murder mysteries and the like, but I’m willing to go for something that makes me think if it has a meaning to it. I’d prefer them to be pretty readable. Thank you!
Do you mean you have to choose one author and write an essay on three of that author’s books? By monsters do you mean bad and/or evil men?
If I’m right about the above, I’d say you can’t go wrong – as far as mystery is concerned – choosing either Dorothy L. Sayers and her Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries or P.D. James’ mysteries.
If you want a different kind of story, choose Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde; Master of Ballantrae and Kidnapped. Each is very different from the other and each has someone quite corrupt in it.
H.G. Wells’ books are more sci-fi like War of the Worlds; The Invisible Man; and The Island of Dr. Moreau.
I, personally, would choose one of those four.

Assignment in Brittany He stared at the unfamiliar watch on his wrist. Three hours ago he had stood on English soil. Three hours ago he had been Martin Hearne, British Intelligence agent. Now he was in Nazi-occupied Brittany, posing as Bertrand Corlay, with the Frenchman’s life reduced to headings in his memory.Hearne looked down at the faded uniform which had once been Corlay’s, felt once more for the papers in the ins… |
