James Ellroy
How would you compare the writings of Raymond Chandler and James Ellroy?
Both are mystery writers of the “Hard-Boiled” School, though Ellroy also writes “Police Procedurals”.
Both wrote in a style referred to as Detective Noir fiction – a style popularized in the 40′s when there were magazines that sensationalized famous murder cases such as The Black Dahlia. The style remains popular today. Ellroy is a great author but he uses that fragmented sentence style that frankly drives me NUTS. I prefer Chandler and Dashiell Hammett. C.
