James Whitcomb

What era did James Whitcomb Riley write in?
I am doing a research paper on an American author and their era…but i don’t know which era JWR wrote in….i’ve heard Victorian, Post Civil War, and Modern…..could you help?

He wrote in the early 19th century during the age of Romanticism in literature. It was the time that European culture began to take control and the days when Dickens would popularize the European traditions of Christmas and the like.
You can research Romanticism and you’ll see that it’s the age parallel with the industrial revolution and is a result of the 18th century rationalistic views on society. It’s an idealist era so hence, romanticism. Anyway, hope this helped
