Why Don’t Jehovahs Witnesses believe America is the land of the free and home of the brave?
It upsets me that they won’t sing along with the crowd at public events. Some don’t even stand up or put their hand over their hearts.
Why can’t they support America since most JW’s use the services the U.S government provides. Isn’t that double standards?
excellent question! JWs who live in the U.S.A. do appreciate the fact that we get to enjoy alot of freedoms that many don’t have. that’s why we pay taxes, obey the laws of the lands, contribute to the community’s we live and work in. not to mention have taken more cases to the Supreme Court over citizen and religious freedoms than anybody else in the history of this country.
idunno if you consider yourself a religious or spiritual man. but if so you might recall the bible story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
they refused to bow down and show an act of patriotism (worship) to a political symbol, similar to a country’s flag. without going into detail God came to their rescue when they were ordered to die, because of their loyalty to God. Daniel 3:12-30
JWs don’t salute the flag or sing the national anthem, because that’s saying that ones allegiance falls with country other than God, when God clearly states that he exacts EXCLUSIVE devotion. now standing ( if ones conscience allows) to show respect for ones country is different. because one is not claiming devotion by doing this. but by putting ones hand over his heart, singing or reciting the phrase it is showing devotion. so standing simply is showing respect,which isn’t against Gods law. just as any JWs would stand in the pressence of a judge or president out of respect, which is custom.
Ex 34:14- For you must not prostrate yourself to another god, because Jehovah, whose name is Jealous, he is a jealous God;
Ex 20:5- You must not bow down to them nor be induced to serve them, because I Jehovah your God am a God exacting exclusive devotion, bringing punishment for the error of fathers upon sons, upon the third generation and upon the fourth generation, in the case of those who hate me;
so no it’s not double standards because JWs do contribute to society and the embetterment of society by living the life that we do. hope this helps=)
