Speed Racer Casts Love Interest for Matthew Fox
Matthew Fox certainly loves a good ride and an adventure. On television, he’s been on one of the most exciting and engaging adventures, as the surgeon turned plane crash survivor turned mysterious island resident, Jack Shephard, on the hit ABC suspense drama, Lost. If his character stays alive until Lost wraps up as scheduled sometime in 2010, Fox would have been on this amazing ride for six years, since the show started in 2004.
On the big screen, the actor is currently working on the film adaptation of the `60s animated series, Speed Racer. Matthew Fox plays the role of the mysteriously complex Racer X, in the movie which is scheduled for release in May of next year. In related news, Nayo Wallace of The Brothers and Sleeper Cell has been cast as Racer X’s love interest, Minx. Emile Hirsch from The Girl Next Door and Lords of Dogtown plays the title role of Speed Racer, in a stellar cast which includes Christina Ricci as his girlfriend, Trixie, and John Goodman and Susan Sarandon as his parents, Pops and Mom Racer.
Speed Racer the movie is being directed by the magnificent Wachowski brothers who were responsible for the highly successful and groundbreaking Matrix trilogy. They are reportedly using a unique technique for filming the race sequences involving Speed Racer’s Mach 5, which is the star automobile of the story. Using an actual car suspended in mid-air inside the studio, the brothers will reportedly make use of their trademark, computer-generated special effects, to simulate the rest of the racing scenery. This innovative approach in place of actually filming a race sequence almost certainly ensures more breathtaking and fantastic rallies and chases in the film.
While the role is a bit of a departure from his Lost character, Speed Racer sounds like another incredible treat for Matthew Fox followers.
