He is one great poet. He introduced Dadaist art to South America with fellow Argentinian, Julio Cortazar, the author of Hopscotch whereas the Brazilian poet, Ronaldo Azeredo who composed Velocidade and novelist, Joao Guimaraes Rosa who authored, “The Devil to pay in the Back-lands,” are credited with concrete poetry. Modernismo in Latin America is credited to Borges and his mentor Ruben Dario.
The Dadaists program was simply to have no program, a nihilistic kind of thought in the arts and architecture unique to the region. He is the composer of such mind-boggling pieces like Tlon Uqbar Orbis Terteus! Borges was one of Latin American prophets of the devil in the Arts that included Fuentes and Llosa. Borges is one writer who indeed deserves all the fame he continues to enjoy posthumously.
