King James

What is the main difference between a King James and a New King James bible?
My fiance sent me a letter about 2 weeks ago and told me to send him a King James bible. Well, i miss read it, and sent him a New Kings James bible (like I have). What is the main difference between the two? And will he get punished for receiving that bible instead of the one he requested? He’s current in MCRD parris island for basic training. Thanks so much if you can help!
There are too many differences to list here, though I will give you some examples. First, on why ‘thee’ ‘thou’ ‘thy’ and ‘thine’ have been changed to you, yours, mine:
In the Bible there is a very distinct difference between the second person singular, and the second person plural (with pronouns). Modern English makes no difference. The English of the Authorised Version did. The koine Greek and the ancient Hebrew of the original Bible books also made this difference. It can be critically important! (And the word ‘you’ IS used in the AV – about 2,000 times; it has its place, but the old English deals with collective groups as opposed to indi-viduals. Of course, all this is lost on people today who don’t understand Shakespeare or the AV!
Now I will illustrate comparisons between the AV (first) with the NKJ (following), separating the two translations with /
Gen 2:7: Man became a living soul / Man became a living being
Gen 3:5 As gods / Like God
Gen 22:8 God will provide himself / God will provide for himself
Zech 11:17 Woe to the idol shepherd / Woe to the worthless shepherd
Mat 2:4 He [King Herod] demanded of them where Christ should be born / He inquired of them
John 1:3 All things were made by him / All things were made through him
John 4:24 God is a Spirit / God is Spirit
Acts 17:22 Ye are too superstitious / you are very religious (Note, the Greek for religious is thresheis or sebomai, which is not in the text. It is the Greek word for superstitious which contains the root word for ‘devil’ – that’s why such details are important.)
Rom 1:18 men who hold the truth in unrighteousness / men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness
Rom 1:25 who changed the truth of God into a lie / whe exchanged the truth of God for the lie
2 Cor 2:17 We are not as many, which corrupt the word of God / We are not as so many, peddling the word of God
Gal 2:20 I am crucified with Christ / I have been crucified with Christ
Gal 5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you / You have become estranged from Christ (The AV is clear that such people were never saved; the NKJ suggests they lost their salvation.)
Phil 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God / Who being in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped (this reversal of words could suggest the Jesus did not hold onto his equality with God – misleading!)
Phil 3:8 dung / rubbish [put rubbish on a kitchen floor, then some dung close by, and see which one is more obnoxious!]
1 Thess 5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil / Abstain from every form of evil
1 Thess 5:23 be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ / be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
1 Tim 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil / For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil
2 Tim 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God / Be diligent to present yourself approved to God
Heb 10:14 For by one offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified / For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified
Jude vs 24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling / Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling (The latter supports Arminianism, that a Christian can fall from grace. The AV shows God will prevent this.)
Another difference; the word ‘hell’ has been removed from 2 Sam 22:6, Job 11:8 & 26:6, Psalm 16:10, 18:5, 86:13 & 116:3, Isa 5:14, 14:15, 28:15,18 & 57:9, Jonah 2:2, Mat 11:23 & 16:18, Luke 10:15 & 16:23, Acts 2:27,31, Rev 1:18, 6:8 & 20:13-14.
