Legal Law

Is it legal for a law office to double your bill if you miss a payment?
I owed a law office $200 but set up a payment plan to where I would have it paid off in three payments. Well, I made the first payment but miss my second payment now they say that I owe them $400 for missing that second payment… Is this legal?
It depends on the late fee policy they have and/or the allowable interest allowed in your state. Additionally, if you received a “deal” that allowed you to pay $200 over three payments and, in exchange, they gave you a discount on the total amount that you owed – they could add that original amount back in because you didn’t fulfill your end of the agreement.
Without a tremendous more information there is no way anyone can really answer your question with any degree of accuracy.
