what does it take to get into the United States Military Academy at West Point?
I always wanted to serve in the US army and recently i have been diagnosed with a heart problem. This heart problem doesn’t restrict me from any daily actives all i cant do is play contact sports or serve on the front lines. So i was wondering if i would be able to go to United States Military Academy at West Point and medical school and become a military doctor. Would the US pay for my medical school as well as college tuition? What are the requirements to get into United States Military Academy at West Point? Thank you for your help.
USMA (West Point) is a very demanding and challenging school, therefore so is admission. To start off, you must be a legal US citizen between the ages of 17 and 23. When you apply for USMA< they look for you leadership potential (extracurriculars, letters in varsity sports, etc.), academics (ACT/SAT test scores, grades, class standing), and physical aptitude (sports, activities, etc.). You must meet very strict health and physical standards. After you apply to USMA, you must first get accepted by USMA. You must also get a nomination from your Senator, Representative, or Vice President. POTUS and Secnav can nominate those that fall into special groups, such as son/daughters of POW/MIAs/KIAs, MOH awardees, NJROTC units, and so on. Despite what some have said, state governors/representatives CANNOT nominate you. Also, you should and kind of have to apply to the USMA Summer Leadership Program. Only people that were first accepted to this then get accepted into USMA. Very few people don't go to this and get selected.That's all of it in a nutshell. As for your heart problem, I'm sorry but your heart problem will disqualify you. The first summer at USMA is horrible and all of the stuff they make you go through is as tough if not tougher than a contact sport or serving in combat. Remember, USMA is to prepare you for combat. Yes you could work in supply for five years (that would suck) but the training that you must endure to choose that slot is very tough and includes things that are much tougher than contact sports.
