Military History

Military History
What is your favorite military battle in history to study?

I’m a history major with an emphasis on military history, so I’m curious to know.

The Battle of Vimy Ridge.
The British couldn’t do it, the French couldn’t do it, just us: Canadians. A small, young and proud nation stood up to an obstacle that nations with much more military experience could not handle, and we took that ridge. We’re known as “Storm Troopers” for a reason, we fight hard, we’re tough, and we always get the job done. Vimy Ridge was a great victory, that brought a load of respect, and gave the Canadians from then on a formidable military reputation which is maintained to this day in the quality of our troops. Not in size, but Canadian troops are known to be some of the best in the world, and INSANELY trained.

The victory made Canadians proud, and I’m sad to see that victories that we continue to have aren’t as recognized among the Canadian public. example: Operation Medusa in the present day conflicft of the War in Afghanistan.

There’s no question in my mind, that Vimy Ridge is my favourite battle in history.
