Omar Khayyam
Is The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam a work of Sufism?
I bought it yesterday because my grandfather used to recite it to my father as a child. Just reading through some of the quatrains, it seems to contain elements of Islamic mysticism, dare I say even elements of Persian “magic”.
Of course I’m reading a FitzGerald translation.
PS: It’s a work of extreme beauty!
From the Wikipedia it seems he was a Sufi and a lady called Umm Kholtoom did sing it, though one shouldn’t confuse the lady for the Umm Khultum of the Koran.
