Digital Photo Printing and Modificatioin
Up to this date, there still are people that do know exactly what digital arts mean. Because of the many variations and meaning of terms used in digital arts, because of their virtual complex and of their different real-life meanings, many people don’t even bother to understand them If a digital image gallery can be called: graphic arts, then why a gallery full of digital photo printing images can’t be also called a display of digital arts?
Digital photo printing and editing can not be properly explained if we chose not to refer to computers and software programs that allow the artists to give life to their works. The history of digital arts has its conventions and conditions. Most people are referring to the tendency that is specific to the 70’s – 80’s when digital photography started to appear.
Nowadays, galleries that are relying on this digital photo printing and editing technique expose and sell many creations. Past art collection were made up of unique and original object and no copies were as valued as the original, regardless of the improvements they might’ve brought to the art object. Traditional art objects are sort of tied to their artists, in such a way that they seem a component part of them. Old art objects are so closely related to the artists that it feels like the painter is donating one of his hands along with his painting. In case of digital arts, the corporal component is missing. Maybe the fact that the artist does not create much, just a file on computer, has something to do with this. The abstract work of art becomes tangible when it is printed on some sort of material. But printing will change the light relationship substantially. No painting will reflect light as the digital photo does, simply because painting requite outside lights in order to be seen. The digital photo printing process can change the object in such a way that it become unrecognizable, because after printing it will be transmuted in an environment that offers an outside source of light. Some wonder why artists don’t ameliorate the passing by modifying their work in such a way that lights don’t matter as much, but the answer is simple: art does not require modifications for any reason.
Some digital art galleries do offer the possibility of buying the digital format of the image.
