Confessions of an English opium-eater by Thomas De Quincey?
I am having problems following the part when he was in London as a young boy, and had to go Eton to get a document signed from a Lord who was a friend of him, in order to get a loan from a London Jew money-lender.
It’s just when he loses track of Ann, his platonic love, when he returns to London he can´t find her anywhere.
What I dont understand is the part of the money. The Jew doesnt accept the signature of the other guy, so he doesnt get the loan, so how manages De Quincey to pay for the university???
