“The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair: Are the people in the book real? How did he write this book?
I am enjoying the book so far BUT…I thought the book Jungle was about Upton Sinclair going undercover in the cicago meat industry to uncover allt he gruesome things that happened. But So far I’m reading about a wedding and Ona and Jurgis, were they real people? Was Upton there in the wedding or is it made up?
He was an actual meat packer. The characters are fictional, but the the events depicted are typical for the time. He wrote the book to expose how badly the workers were being treated, but instead it led to better standards for food quality.
