What is the normal time of year for a Rhode Island Red hen to begin gathering/sitting on a clutch in Illinois?
I have 13 hens and 4 cocks, with free reign of about 5 acres.
Unless Illinois in on another planet,they should be starting about now. . . . IF Illinois is on another planet,I am not sure when their spring/summer season starts so I would not be able to answer your question.
I am not sure of your terminololgy when you use the word “gathering” unless you refer to the hen gathering up nesting material. . . . .I have nesting boxes for my hens to go to and they are lined with straw.
