Okay here goes:
It starts off with Watanuki having a dream where he sees Himawari-chan but he soon realizes that he can only see through one eye. He wakes up afraid and discovers Modoka lying across his face. He comes to the conclusion that this is why he dreamed of being blind in one eye and goes about his day in a giddy state because he had a dream of his crush :)
When he gets to Yuko’s shop she tells him that terrible things will happen to him, which he dismisses because he had a dream about Himawari-chan. Yuko tries to explain to him again that she doesn’t believe that the girl is good luck for him (much the opposite) and Watanuki exclaims “But she’s so darn cute!” Just seeing her makes him happy all day he tells Yuko who makes a joke saying she wonders if Himawari feels the same way then goes on to talk about how he can’t seem to get a date. An indignant Watanuki limits her sake for the night and she calls him a tyrant.
The next morning Watanuki is complaining about having the spend the night simply because Yuko wanted him to make breakfast when passes by Domeki’s temple. Domeki calls out “Hey” to which Watanuki gives his normal reply of “My name isn’t hey!” Domeki is cleaning up the grounds and Watanuki ends up helping him. Watanuki talks a bit about Domeki coming to the store. Domeki becomes pensive but when Watanuki asks further he changes the subject to what Watanuki made for lunch. In a fit Watanuki gets caught in a spider’s web and Domeki has to break the web apart to free him. They walk away and the image of a spider hanging among the ruins of the web ends the scene at the temple.
Later, at lunch time, Watanuki is enjoying some time alone with Himawari-chan when Domeki shows up complaining about having something in his eye. Later, Watanuki and Domeki are walking home togehter (something Watanuki is complaining about mightily) when Domeki collapses in pain. He can’t open his eye and Watanuki wants to take him to a hospital. Domeki says it is something that a hospital can’t fix and reveals that his eye has been shut by a web. Watanuki wants to take Domeki to Yuko’s shop but he refuses saying he cannot enter that woman’s store. In a panic Watanuki goes to the shop and asks for Yuko’s help, who explains that the spider has a grudge against Domeki for the destruction of its home. Seeing has Watanuki was the one who originally damaged the web he can’t see how this is fair and agrees to do something about it.
Back at the temple Domeki is surrounded by a strange wind and discovers that he can once again open his eye. On the way to school he sees Watanuki walking up ahead and calls to him. Watanuki is wearning an eye patch and Domeki -showing intense emotion-demands to know what Watanuki did for him and rips the eye patch away. Watanuki is now blind in one eye in exchange for Domeki’s vision. Domeki, visibly upset, tells Watanuki to call Yuko there. He wants what Watanuki did reversed but Yuko says he can’t give back his eye for Watanuki’s since saving Domeki’s eye was the reason for Watanuki’s sacrifice: “If two wishes are of equal strength. The one that comes first takes precedence”. Yuko says that Watanuki doesn’t understand why Domeki is angry because he doesn’t understand how his sacrifice hurts Domeki. She says it’s okay for him to be angry “If a person sacrifices himself to save another, then that person should know just what kind of scars that action leaves on the rescued person.”
In the next part Watanuki is slowly adjusting to having only one eye and has prepared a bath for Yuko. A frantic woman comes in demanding that her wish be granted by Watanuki. He tries to calm her down and tell her that she has the wrong person when Yuko appears and introduces herself as the owner of the shop. The young woman wants a picture to disappear at any cost. It is a picture of another young woman standing on a cliff looking out over the horizon. Watanuki can’t see why this picture is so frightening to her until it starts moving. Everyday the picture moves some more, as if playing back a scene in very slow motion. It even starts to melt the frame it is in. The young woman returns and is confronted by Yuko. As the scene comes to a close we see that it is a picture taken just before the customer pushed her rival off a cliff–a death that was official ruled an accident by the authorities. She begs Yuko to destroy the picture, says she will give anything. Yuko agrees. Once the picture is gone she tells the young woman that her part of the deal is to never allow her image to be captured by any sort of media that can be played back, photos, home movies, security cameras, etc. If she ever is the image will be of the murder instead of her face. Watanuki feels that she has not been given a very strict punishment considering she committed cold-blooded murder, then Yuko explains that in order to fulfill their agreement she will have to live in complete isolation and never dare venture out and will inevitably crack under the pressure. That the price for taking a life is heavy “Heavy enough to crush a person”.
The next part has Watanuki walking home trying to not bump into things since he can’t see to one side of himself. He suddenly has a flash of vision in his right eye but it is of a different place than he is currently in. He shakes it off and goes off to Domeki’s temple because Himawari-chan needed him to take a book to Domeki for her. He finds Domeki doing research on how to rescue Watanuki’s eye from the spider. Watanuki tells him to not bother, he’s okay with how things turned out. Domeki says that he is not okay with it and continues with his research. Later Watanuki arrives with food for Domeki and they banter a bit. Watanuki then offers to help look through the old manuscripts. He briefly feels something ominous but is distracted by Domeki and lets it go. Domeki finds an old journal of his grandfather’s and discovers what looks like a way to appease the spider. Suddenly there is shuffling from the book Domeki borrowed from Himawari and a strange dark substance comes out and starts eating the words on the pages of the journal. They try to fight it off but can only contain it in a bento box. Yuko arrives and destroys it but it is too late. Most of the information about the spider is gone. Himawari-chan’s book has also been damaged and while Watanuki is spazzing about it Yuko turns to them with a knowing expression and says, “Yes, it was Himawari-chan’s book…”
To be continued in volume 8
