Read books to improve your health
There was a blog by Anna Ohlden in March 25th 2009 which confirmed that top medical experts are saying reading books and novel is good for health. We all know that reading books is good to improve your general knowledge and also your English but now science is saying it improves your health. Many Doctors these days believe that reading a good book can actually improve your health, which is great news; because I read daily and so do you. Generally everybody reads, currently you are reading this blog.
When I arrive in the UK 15 years ago, I was not fluent in English and used to struggle to hold a conversation. I started reading english books and novels. I didn’t have a selected choice of what I wanted to read, I just read anything, which was in English. I used to go to my local second hand book sellers every month as they used to sell quality but cheap second hand books.
Obviously school books was pretty handy for me, which helped me in my general knowledge and educated my mind but in my spare time I used to read childrens books and other fiction books. Moving to UK was a whole cultural change for me, I was very young and have to adapt to the new change as soon as possible. Within few weeks of arriving in the UK, I felt home sick and was mentally ill and depressed. Then I started reading books to keep me occupied in my spare time, as we didn’t have Internet then.
After school many children used to go play outside with their friends but I used to sit at home in my room reading books and now I am very glad I did that because reading books gave me a creative mind. I started thinking and doing things which I never did. After few months I felt comfortable in the enviroment I was in and started going out for photography as I had a new hobby – think I read a lot of photography books. So reading books did help my mental health.
