What are your feelings about Sinclair Lewis’ contribution?
Sinclair Lewis was a very important american writer in the tradition of a Charles Dickens or Mark Twain he defined a specific era of the common man.
Main Street is an important literary work as it defines small town life. He was a social critic and a supporter of the working man and woman. He was a critic of capitalism, a point exaggerated in several of his works but very obvious in Elmer Gantry an evangelical preacher ready to save souls for the most amount of money he can collect.
I love his work. He is one of our most important writers. Many high school’s study Main Street and Babbitt, but my favorite is Elmer Gantry.
