Every writer on the of subject “Zorro” refers to Johnston McCulley (1883-1958) as the “original” and “best” on the legend of Zorro… he began other ‘masked heroes’ too.
He wrote “The Tales of Zorro” …first called “The Curse of Capistrano” in 1915…
There’s a current edition of “The Tales of Zorro” from ’07, 311 pages…
…in English because McCulley was a US citizen.
You can find “The Curse of Capistrano” on Amazon as well, an ’08 edition, 240 pages. By McCulley.
For more work (short stories) on Zorro that includes stories by Isabelle Allende and more (many more) that gets high marks by readers at Amazon…
…Look at this one… “Tales of Zorro” (there is no “The…” there), ’08 edition, 288 pages…
…by Jan Adkins, Isabelle Allende, Robin Wayne Bailey, Mike Bullock, Max Collins, Greg Cox, A.C. Crispin, Peter David, Loren D. Estelman , Ed Gorman and more…
If you haven’t read the following yet, they’re also good English translations by overseas authors and they’re classics too:
“The Three Musketeers” by Alexander Dumas
and
“Les Miserable”
plus
“The Hunchback of Norte Dame” both by Victor Hugo
…and more…
