How is Mark Twain’s life and the life of tom sawyer similar and different? Include qualities please!
There are more similarities than you’d suspect:
-grew up in small towns on the Mississippi (St Petersburg is actually Hannibal)
-Father died at early age; was primarily raised by a woman
-Sid was really Twain’s younger brother Henry
-Mary was really Twain’s sister Pamela
-Laura Hawkins was the model for Becky Thatcher
-Twain and Tom both hated Sunday School and church
-They were similar in that they both loved being the center of attention
-They were both show-offs (Twain wore his Oxford graduation gown-obtained when he received an honorary Doctorate-to his daughter’s WEDDING-she was fit to be tied)
-Tom Blankenship, a poor Hannibal boy and acquaintance of Twain’s as a boy-was the inspiration for Huck Finn
-Both loved cats
-Both loved to explore
-Both were exposed to violence at a young age. Tom saw the graveyard murder of Dr. Robinson. Twain saw a lynching when only a young boy.
-Twain grew up poor, like Tom
-Twain’s boyhood home, which is right on the banks of the Mississippi, must have been the inspiration for Tom’s home. They’re the same, right down to the fmous fence.
-Both were fascinated with the Mississippi River
Differences:
-Not everything that happened in TS happened to Twain.
-I don’t think he was as superstitious as Tom
-Twain probably showed more interest in education and writing than Tom did
-Twain didn’t discover any hidden treasure
-I doubt that any Injun Joe bothered Twain
