How do I decorate?
I am moving into a condo. I want to make it nice and cozy. There is a bedroom (with a burgundy wall, others are white), and office (white walls), a tile bathroom, a tile kitchen, a dining room with a dark blue wall and a living room with all white walls. It is about 1000 sq ft. I don’t know how to decorate or what colors go good together…All of our bedroom stuff is blue – but the wall in there is burgundy – right now our bedroom is all Van Gough stuff…So what is a good way to approach this…should each room have its own theme or should they all be the same? Any tips or ideas would be great!
thanks!
Different designs within one room could make the whole theme look a little too mismatched and that is not usually a good thing.
Essential parts of all design styles are concept, color, proportion, balance, ergonomics and function of design. Although all styles differentiate their usage of each of these, they are all an integral part of the overall look and feel of a room or space.
Interior decorators use three or four colors as a theme throughout a home.
Theme colors used with repetition will unify the rooms of a house. To prevent each room from looking out of place, try to maintain similar tones and themes throughout the house.
Colors have psychological effects on people and their moods. You want your living area to be warm and inviting, the living area should be well-decorated, well-laid out and inviting to guests and family members. It should project a homey, comfortable yet elegant image.
When you want to relax, retreat, or rest, where’s the first place you go? Most likely your answer will be the bedroom.Your theme should be something that makes you want to relax. For me, it’s a warm and soothing beach. A quiet walk in the park, a serene forest, or midnight breeze are all examples of calming themes.
Your colors should mesh with your theme, as well as soothe you when you see them. For my beach scene, I use light blues, foamy greens, and dark greens. All of these colors soothe me. However, not all people would enjoy having a room in these colors. Your colors should be something you feel comfortable with.
