West Point

How can i convince my parents to let me apply to West Point?
I’m a 16 year old high school junior and I really feel that I want to go to west point so that I can be an officer in the army. But every time I talk to my parents about anything related to joining the military, they keep saying how if I join then that would mean I don’t care for them, which is not true. Can anybody give me some suggestions on how to convince them? Because if i’m applying to west point, then I should get started on the process soon.
if you really want to apply to west point, just do it. if you get in you won’t need your parents to pay for anything, so it’s really out of their hands. like answer #1 said, they’re the one’s who don’t care for YOU if they don’t support your decision.
Also, be persistent. I’m in my 3rd year of college, and when I applied to schools i applied for army ROTC scholarships behind my parents’ backs, because, like you, every time I’d bring up being in the army they would disagree, argue, be unsupportive, etc. I won ROTC scholarships to EVERY SCHOOL I APPLIED TO. I was so proud of myself. but when I went to my parents with the news that they wouldn’t have to pay for my education they were so furious that they got my entire family and all my friends to convince me not to do it. I still want to be in the army, and I’m enlisting in the reserves and will go to OCS after I graduate college. My parents are more supportive now because they see that I’ve wanted to do it for years, and that I’m very serious about it. just keep telling them that it’s what you want to do, and you will get into screaming matches with them but eventually they should come around.
